IS THERE A FUTURE FOR THE BARRIADA? TESTIMONY AND PROPOSAL

Abstract

After a visit to Chorrillos and Villa el Salvador, in Lima, the author makes a review of some concepts about the "barriada" and it's future. He asks if the barriada's actual condition can change and turn into a regular neighborhood. He also reviews the history of social housing solutions, either by the Government or the population, proposing, at the end, three alternative projects: Miguel Alvariño's upper streets, Jorge Burga street in Villa María del Triunfo, and a thesis by former student Martín Carrasco, regarding a project over a slope in the barriada.
