Abstract

The Unified power flow controller (UPFC) is the most important contribution of the power electronics in the modern Electrical Power Systems. The UPFC is able to decouple the control of the active and reactive power sent trough the transmission line. This control is performed by
injecting in series with the transmission line a voltage with regulated magnitude and phase, generated by a PWM voltage source inverter (VSI). When the current flow in the line originate in the inverter an active and reactive power. The active part of the power require to be either
supplied or absorbed by a device, e.g. a second inverter. In this paper, simulation result obtained with a fundamental model of UPFC connected to a simple AC transmission system, and a control system base on "dq" transformation necessary to obtained the P and Q decoupled control is
presented.
