Abstract

This article presents the results of research carried out by the National University of Engineering to generate electricity from biogas, with the purpose of electrifying native populations located in the Alto Marañón region in the Department of Amazonas. The necessary fuel was obtained from a biogas pilot plant, Olade-Guatemala type of 5m³/day, from the former Industrial Technological Research and Technical Standards Institute, ITINTEC, recovered at the National Industrial Work Training Service Unit, SENATI, from Villa El Salvador. The biogas engine was achieved from an innovation in a Honda gas station stationary group,
which has a single-cylinder engine and generates 3.5 kVA. The innovation consists of a very low-cost carburetor that allows biogas to be introduced into the engine for subsequent combustion in it. With this device, which does not exist in the local market, a performance of 1.38 m³ of biogas/(kWh) of electricity generated in the group tested has been achieved, and it can be applied in groups of this type, which reach up to 8 .0kW. These results will allow the electrification of small population centers, such as those observed in Alto Marañón, or others such as those required by productive or service activities, such as the breeding of minor and major species, or the hotel industry.
