Abstract

The presentation offers an overview of the teaching of architectural restoration at the Faculty of Architecture and the School of Specialization in Restoration in Italian universities, as a meeting point of the activities of the restorer architect and professor architect, the professional and the researcher, practiced with certain differences due to local traditions and technological influences.
The report will present the topics and some of the symbolic restorations that took place over a period of one century, to reach today's positions of conservation and protection, with openness to the demands of recovery and of development that emerged after the 1975 Amsterdam Declaration.
Cases are illustrated in order to present the different approaches to issues of conservation of monuments and conservation of the environment in Italy.
