Abstract

Latin America and the Caribbean is a region of great diversity in most of existing Latin American territories prehispanic, colonial and modernist models of development and territorial planning use coexist. This situation causes social, ecosystemic, and territorial conflicts. Specifically, this article is based on "Colombia, diverse social and ecosystemic scenario", a chapter from the research titled Integration of protected Areas to Land Management as a Necessity to Achieve Human Welfare in Colombia, which concludes that in order to plan and effectively manage land use, it is necessary to recognize the social, cultural, ecosystemic, administrative and political diversity of territories, as well as to clarify the irreplaceable role of biodiversity and protected areas in achieving human welfare, effective prevention and management of socio-ecological, territorial and humanitarian conflicts to propose differentiated public policies consistent with biodiverse, multiethnic and multicultural environments from a comprehensive, complementary and synergic point of view among territories.
