Abstract

Urban development plans are tools for rational organization of a city. They contain the goals, suggestions, rules and principles that guide the city's development. However, in Lima metropolitan area and Callao, those plans were rarely applied in its entirety. This work analyses the proposals of the three principal development plans elaborated between 1949 and 2010. The principal aspects for the analysis were: population growth, territory, urban zoning and road network. These topics were used to put in contrast the proposals described in the plans and the perceived reality at the end of their validation. This way, it is intended to provide a general view of the results obtained from the analysis of each period.
