Abstract

The nineteen-nineties are the period of time where the first approaches to the study of the essence of the public life in its urban and spatial dimension are registered. Since then the topic of the public space has become a growing subject of critical attention and source of political, social and cultural discussion. This article provides a recapitulation of the main research traditions about the public spaces in Lima during the period of 1990- 2011. This article does not aim to make an account of the production developed neither in studies nor in researches, but to identify the more developed field of study, as well as to document some remarkable approaches due to their uniqueness in the perspective and the theme. This registry has as a main reference those studies where the research objectives are restricted by the spatial notion and the public space as an urban: to be studied as such or in relation to some social, cultural, economic, political, artistic or environmental phenomenon.
